About Us

Hi there! For those that don't know, I'm Emily - the face behind Tywardreath Bakery / The Village Bakery. We are a small family run home bakery based in a small wonderful village on the south coast of Cornwall.

We pride ourselves on sourcing locally in Cornwall, using heritage grain in all of our loaves and championing regenerative farming practices. Our bakery changes with the seasons and we only work with what nature provides, when she provides it. We work exclusively with local Cornish farms and love experimenting with the in-season flavours to create new breads.

Our core values are centred around supporting and contributing to a thriving local food system in Cornwall and aiming to be as sustainable as we can. We were recognised as a "Better Food Trader" in 2025, and this is something we are immensly proud of.

Since forming in February 2024 we've grown both in family size and in our business. From only being found every Sunday at our front garden, we can now be found at 5 markets a month! Whitecross, Liskeard, Bodmin Nursery, Lostwithiel and Puddle Farm (Lanlivery).

Britain's Best Loaf 2025 - Bronze

We are absolutely over the moon to announce that we've won Bronze for our beautiful Her-itage loaf in Britain's Best Loaf by @britishbaker.

As a tiny home bakery that doesn't have years and years of experience, we were bold to enter, and to this day, I do not know what posessed me to enter but here we are and it paid off! I'm so very happy to have achieved this, and it feels incredible just for this lovely loaf to be recognised in the way it has. There was a whole boatload of talent at the competition, and I honestly walked away expecting nothing, and I'd accepted that it would likely be the case! So I'm just delighted at this outcome!

For those that don't know our Her-itage Loaf is made with a blend of @shiptonmill dark rye flour, @wildfarmed rustic white flour, @cornish_golden_grains Heritage Orange Blue wholemeal flour and @cotswoldflour Farmhouse wholemeal and contains toasted sesame, linseed, pumpkin and sunflower seeds. For a small, family run business, this is huge for us, and I'm so, so happy I get to share this wonderful news with you all!

Taste Of The West 2025

We were honoured to take home both Gold & Silver awards for our breads last year. Winning a very high scoring Gold for our roasted garlic & rosemary focaccia, and Silver for our Country sourdough loaf.
